私は小さいころ、夏はほとんど毎日星空を眺める機会がありました。
でも、忙しい毎日を送っている私たちは、ほとんど星空を眺める機会はないですね。
今日、天の川も織姫も見れないかも知れないけど、見れなくても夜空を眺めることは楽しいです。

Tonight is Tanabata. That's the Japanese name for the Star Festival. 
The Tanabata festival has its origins in China, but it has been celebrated in different ways in Japan for over a thousand years. The story goes that Princess Orihime and her lover Hikoboshi, were separated by the milky way by their jealous father Tentei. Orihime (vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair) are the two brightest stars in the southern summer sky, and tomorrow night, the 7th day of the of the 7th month people all across Japan will go outside and gaze up into the stars to find them. Because, it is on this night only that Orihime's father allows the two lovers to meet. Yup, just once a year. If it is cloudy, and the two stars can't be seen, then legend says that they don't get to meet until next year :( But the forecast for tomorrow night is clear, so around 10 O'clock, if you go outside and look up, you may just see the two stars. If you stare hard enough, and you have had enough wine, then you may see them come together for their one night of romance:)
On Monday night, there was a rare break in the rainy season weather and we had some clear skies so I drove out to the coast and took some photos of the summer milky way.
