普段は台風の後、空がきれいから、夕焼けを撮るのが楽しみです。

でも今回の台風は大雨の影響で、自宅の付近で被害が多かった。

近くの川が数ヶ所で増水したため、一部の地区が冠水しました。

I usually enjoy photographing typhoon sunsets, but this week’s storm caused a lot of damage around here and the mood in my neighbourhood was very somber on Wednesday after it passed. I had the day off and helped the neighbours clean up in the morning, then had a walk around in the evening. I was shocked to see a lot of low lying areas had serious flood damage. We had about 30cm of rain here overnight, and the main river breached it's banks in quite a few places flooding rice fields, roads and a few houses. Local farmers said the same happened here 18 years ago.

This swollen river swept the edge of these rice fields away (below), and late Wednesday afternoon after some of the flood waters had receded, a metre high waterfall formed where the flooded fields drained back out into the river. The rice paddies are now full of rubbish and sand and I have no idea how they will repair them.

上の写真は、私がよく散歩する所の田んぼです。

増水した川が、田んぼの中を流れたようで、畦道が流された。

川のゴミと砂が全部田んぼに入り、そして田んぼの端の１メートルの滝ができました。

稲刈りが終わっててよかったです。来年までにまた直せるといいですね。

水が下がった後、田んぼに流れたゴミが残っていた。

Flood torrents washed most of this dam away. Behind where I stood, there was a wall of bamboo and logs right up to the top of the 2 metre high stop banks.

Talking to friends and workmates, there was similar flooding all around Chiba, most of which didn't make the news. A number of my students have flood damage to their houses and lost possessions to the rains. Thoughts go out to people put out by the typhoon. Take care and stay safe. A lot of people are thinking of you.

友達や同僚の話を聞くと、千葉県の多くの所で似たような被害があったようです。
