Some of the Japanese cloud names are so romantic.

In English, clouds are named in Latin of course. They are classified by height and form.
It's a great system, which is accurate and a great way of understanding the science behind the clouds.

In Japanese, clouds are often just named after something they resemble in nature.
Sardine clouds, cotton clouds etc.

These amazing clouds that I saw a few weeks ago for example, are called alto-cumulus in English.
