今年の夏休みはいかがお過ごしでしたか？
私は昨年同様に、沖縄の北部のやんばるへ行ってきました。
今年も海がめの産卵が見られたらと思い、大潮にあたるようにスケジュールしました。
日が落ちた後、小さな湾を上から眺めながら
海がめが上陸して来ないかと観察していました。
残念ながら、今年は海がめは上陸してきませんでしたが
ちょうど満月が水平線から昇り、あたりをやさしく照らしていました。
水面に映る光と月明かりで照らされた景色、そして波の音だけが静かに聞こえていて
心が透き通るような美しい時間を過ごすことができました。
みなさんにもその時の美しい時間が少しでも伝わりましたらうれしいです。

We timed our Okinawa trip earlier this month to coincide with the full moon,
so we could observe sea turtles coming ashore to nest.
We didn't see any turtles this year despite looking out for them
but we did see lots of their tracks on some of the beaches in the mornings.

Every evening after dinner we sat up on a cliff overlooking a small secluded beach.
With the full moon shining bright above the pacific ocean the beach almost seemed like daytime, and we listened to the waves crashing on the outer reef and kept a look out for turtles.
It was a pretty sight.
