今年の夏、鳥取県に3週間滞在することになりました。
大変光栄なことに、鳥取県の推進するアーティストインレジデンスにお招きいただいたのです。
（※アーティストインレジデンスとは、アーティストが自分の本拠地以外の場所に滞在し、地域の自然・歴史・文化との関わりの中で、作品制作に取り組む活動。）
アートディレクターは鳥取出身で「小鳥の家族」「鳥取R29フォトキャラバン」「写真の楽校」を参画する横浜在住の写真家、水本俊也さん。
今回は主に鳥取県の東部を活動拠点に、地元の方との交流を深めながら、美しい鳥取の田舎の風景や人々を撮影します。そこで撮影した美しい田舎の風景のフォト軸を、鳥取県の名産品である因州和紙でプリントし、作品を制作する内容となります。フォト軸を日本の和紙にプリントし、掛け軸のような作品として完成することは本当に夢のようなお話で、とても感動しています。
滞在中は美しい鳥取の風景を私が暮らす千葉、東京を含めた全国のみなさまにお届けできたらと願っています。

I have an announcement to make.
This summer I will be doing an ARTIST IN RESIDENCY in Tottori.
Tottori is a stunning area on the Sea of Japan coastline in South Western Japan, rich in rural history, art and culture. Tottori prefecture have invited me to come and live there for 3 weeks of photographing, exploring, learning, and meeting the local people.

The art director is Shunya Mizumoto, a Yokohama based photographer who was born in Tottori. While in Tottori, I will get to accompany him on his ongoing art projects, spend time working on my own project, and take part in some other events like summer photography workshops for children.

Tottori has a thriving Washi paper industry, and my own personal art project will be creating some large vertical panoramas (like my current cover photo) on specially produced Japanese Washi paper. These will be photographs of Eastern Tottori, the area I will be staying in.

It is a massive opportunity for me, and a big challenge I'm sure, but it will be great to take my photography in a new direction, and hopefully I can help bring some more tourism to rural Japan, my love of which what got me into photography in the first place. I'm guessing I will be very busy while there, but I'm planning to post updates and photos of beautiful Tottori while I'm there.
