While the photography world is kicking up a storm about Amazon's recent White Backlighting patent, I'm more interested in natural backgrounds like this photo.
Recently, I've found a perfect little studio for photographing plants in natural light, and it's just a few steps from my front door.
Underneath the tall trees of my local shrine, there are a few perfect little spots. For a few hours everyday they are sheltered from the full sun, and from the right angle provide a background full of warm green light, that sparkles and flickers when a breeze comes through.
My neighbours must wonder what on earth I am doing, as I walk back and forwards between my house and the shrine, carrying one pot plant at a time. If only they knew how magical the light is under those trees.
